Diese Sammlung ist ein Begleitstück zum neuen Dokumentarfilm Hallelujah: Leonard Cohen, A Journey, A Song, der diesen Monat beim Tribeca Festival Premiere feiert und auch eine offizielle Auswahl bei den Filmfestspielen von Venedig 2021 und dem Telluride Festival 2021 war. Der Film ist eine definitive Erkundung des Singer-Songwriters aus der Sicht von Cohens international renommierter Hymne „Hallelujah“. Der Film, der kurz vor seinem 80. Geburtstag im Jahr 2014 von Leonard Cohen für die Produktion freigegeben wurde, greift auf eine Fülle von noch nie zuvor gesehenen Archivmaterialien des Cohen Family Trust zu, darunter Cohens persönliche Notizbücher, Tagebücher und Fotografien, Performance-Aufnahmen und extrem seltene Audioaufnahmen und Interviews. The anthology Leonard Cohen: Hallelujah & Songs from His Albums consists of 17 tracks from Cohen’s extensive career and offers an unreleased and unforgettable live performance of „Hallelujah“ from Glastonbury Festival 2008. This collection is a companion piece to the new documentary Hallelujah: Leonard Cohen, A Journey, A Song, which premieres at the Tribeca Festival this month and was also an official selection at the 2021 Venice Film Festival and the 2021 Telluride Festival. The film is a definitive exploration of the singer-songwriter from the perspective of Cohen’s internationally acclaimed anthem „Hallelujah“. Released for production by Leonard Cohen shortly before his 80th birthday in 2014, the film draws on a wealth of never-before-seen archival materials from the Cohen Family Trust, including Cohen’s personal notebooks, diaries and photographs, performance recordings, and extremely rare audio recordings and interviews. The feature-length documentary features moving testimonies from Leonard’s personal friends such as Adrienne Clarkson and Larry „Ratso“ Sloman and recording artists for whom „Hallelujah“ has become a personal touchstone, such as Judy Collins, Brandi Carlile and Rufus Wainwright.
