95th Oscars Shortlists Announced for 10 Categories

With one month to go until the nominations are unveiled for the 95th Academy Awards, the Academy has announced shortlists in 10 categories: Documentary Feature Film, Documentary Short Film, International Feature Film, Makeup and Hairstyling, Music (Original Score), Music (Original Song), Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film, Sound, and Visual Effects.

Each shortlist is determined by members of that corresponding branch, except for International Feature Film. (Members from all branches are invited to participate in the preliminary round of voting and must meet a minimum viewing requirement to be eligible to vote in the category.)

The nominations for the 95th Academy Awards will be announced on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2023, while the Oscars ceremony will be held on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at the Dolby® Theatre at Ovation Hollywood and will be televised live on ABC and in more than 200 territories worldwide.

Documentary Feature Film

15 films will advance in the Documentary Feature Film category for the 95th Academy Awards. 144 films were eligible in the category. Members of the Documentary Branch vote to determine the shortlist and the nominees.

Le grand public connaît „Hallelujah“ , „Suzanne“ et quelques autres chansons. Mais l’oeuvre de Leonard Cohen est bien plus vaste et variée. Poète, romancier, chanteur, mystique, homme à femmes, Juif, bouddhiste, Canadien, citoyen du monde… qui était exactement cet artiste, qui nous a quittés en novembre 2016 ? Ce livre revient sur son parcours atypique en dix temps forts – de la publication de son premier recueil de poèmes en 1956 à sa dernière tournée et à son superbe album posthume -, prétextes à dévoiler dix facettes de sa personnalité et de son oeuvre. „Ni hagiographie, ni étude musicologique, ni enquête à charge… Mais un livre de profonde admiration“ , écrit Pascal Bouaziz, qui nous offre en conclusion de l’ouvrage une interview imaginaire avec le poète-chanteur.

Pascal Bouaziz a récemment mis un terme au groupe Mendelson avec un chef-d’oeuvre, mais n’en reste pas moins actif via de multiples projets. S’il y a une figure qui a nourri son artisanat poétique et musical, c’est bien le grand Leonard Cohen. Dans ce bel ouvrage, il dresse un portrait sensible du regretté Canadien, révélant les différentes facettes d’un poète qui ne cesse d’interroger les liens entre l’art et vie. Ce qui fait le prix de ces pages c’est aussi leur juste distance, entre admiration non feinte et refus des oeillères : on y contemple les hauts comme les failles. Empreinte de mélancolie, cette balade folk dans le parcours et l’oeuvre du songwritter procure surtout une folle envie de vivre.
