Juli 1959 in Santa Monica, Kalifornien geborene US-amerikanische Sängerin und Songwriterin Suzanne Nadine Vega nennt als ihre wichtigsten Einflüsse Lou Reed, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Laura Nyro und eben LEONARD COHEN. Mit Lou Reed, den sie Mitte der 1980er Jahre kennenlernte, war sie zuletzt eng befreundet. Eine Liebesbeziehung zu Leonard Cohen ist nicht bekannt. Aber Suzanne Vega traf des Öfteren Leonard Cohen und sie interviewte ihn. Ein sehr ausführliches Interview führte sie 1993 mit Leonard Cohen, das auf verschiedenen Plattformen zu finden war. Mittlerweile ist es auch in ihrem Buch nachzulesen.
In ihren Konzerten covert sie zuweilen Leonard Cohens Hit Suzanne und erzählt zur Einführung über Leonard Cohen Anekdoten.1995 erschien nach dem 1991er „I`m Your Fan“-Tribute-Album, das zweite Leonard Cohen-Tribute-Album „Tower Of Song“ – The Songs of Leonard Cohen, auf dem die Vega als 12. von insgesamt 13 Songs auf dem Album, auf dem auch andere Künstler vertreten sind, den Cohen Song „Story of Isaac“ coverte.
