Die QUEEN OF SOUL, Aretha Franklin ist tot. Sie verstarb am 16. August 2018 mit 76 Jahren und gilt als Ikone der US-amerikanischen Popmusik, ihr Lied „Respect“ wurde zur Hymne des Befreiungskampfes der schwarzen US-Bevölkerung. 2010 war bei Aretha Franklin Bauchspeicheldrüsenkrebs diagnostiziert worden. Zum letzten Mal trat sie im November 2017 in New York auf.

Leonard Cohen nannte Aretha Franklin immer wieder gerne, wenn er nach Musik gefragt wurde, die er „privat“ höre:

2007 veröffentlichte Aretha Franklin das Album „Rare & Unreleased Recordings From the Golden Reign by Aretha Franklin (2007-02-01)“, worauf auch Leonard Cohen`s Song „Suzanne“ zu finden ist.
