KW-53-2020: #Leonard_Cohen_and_Beethoven? – Yep, there is a story behind – Ja, auch dazu gibt es eine Geschichte: „Would Beethoven refuse the invitation of Mozart?“ – Leonard Cohen asked Phil Collins, when Cohen was working on the “Tower Of Song”-Tribute-Album in the year of 1995. Cohen said in an Interview : “I asked him, and he declined. And I wrote him saying, „Would Beethoven decline Mozart’s invitation?“ He wrote back a lovely fax, saying „No, but Beethoven must decline, because Beethoven is going on worldtour. It was a very charming fax he sent me, and completely legitimate.”

„Ludwig van Beethoven gilt als der meistgespielte klassische Komponist – und er war ein radikaler Künstler, der sich immer wieder neu erfunden hat, der die Grenzen der Musik erweiterte und die Gesellschaft in Frage stellte. Weltweit inspiriert er uns bis heute.“, heißt es auf der Web-Seite der Beethoven Jubiläums GmbH .

KW-53-2020: Leonard Cohen_and_URIAH_HEEP ? #Ken_Hensley_on_Leonard_Cohen: He_is_my_favourite_songwriter_of_all_times“ said #Uriah_Heep_Founder_#Ken_Hensley in an Interview with Christof Graf, just some days (9th october 2020), before Hensley died on 4th of november 2020

Promotion Days with Uriah Heep – Musicians  – 50 Years of Rock – An excerpt from one of Ken Hensley`s last interviews with Christof Graf on 9th of october 2020. #Ken_Hensley talks about an encounter with Leonard Cohen in 1972. „… He is my favourite songwriters of all times … I remember this encounter as if it was yesterday, only I can’t remember the exact date“. The whole interview you can read on: BLOG.LEONARDCOHEN.DE and www.cohenpedia.de (Sorry for the bad quality – it was not the best telephone connection, but it was one the last interviews #Ken_Hensley did. He passed away on 4th of november 2020)

Ken Hensley talks about an encounter with Leonard Cohen in 1972. „I remember this encounter as if it was yesterday, only I can’t remember the exact date“. If one compares the tour plans of Uriah Heep & Leonard Cohen, both Leonard Cohen and Uriah Heep played in Munich in 1970, 1972, 1974 and 1976, both often in the legendary location „Circus Krone Bau“. And in fact, it must have been April 10-11, 1972 when the encounter took place. These are the only tour dates on which Uriah Heep and Leonard Cohen stayed at the same time in Munich to give a concert; Author’s note).

P.S.: The reason for this conversation was the publication of Uriah Heep’s “50 Years In Rock” complilation on 30th of October 2020, which of course also includes the band’s anthem #LADY_IN_BACK. A fortnight after this interview, which was one of the last Ken Hensley ever gave, the agencies reported on November 5th, 2020: „Ken Hensley“ died „unexpectedly“ on November 4th, 2020 at the age of 75. His brother Trevor confirmed this in a Facebook post. He did not comment on the cause of death. He wrote: „I write this with a heavy heart to let you know that my brother Ken Hensley died peacefully Wednesday night. His beautiful wife, Monica, was by his side, helping Ken in his last minutes. We are all devastated by.“ this tragic and incredibly unexpected loss and we ask you to give us some space and time to deal with it. Ken is being cremated at a private ceremony in Spain so please don’t ask for information about a funeral. Ken has left but he will never be forgotten and will always stay in our hearts. Take care out there.
